The former Brazilian leader has been detained after authorities found he posed a concrete flight risk while under domestic detention.

The former head of state was convicted of plotting a military coup in September and sentenced more than over two decades in prison, but he continued under house arrest pending legal challenges.

High Court Judge the presiding justice said the move to detain the septuagenarian politician was a preventative measure after "new facts" came to light.

This encompassed trying to remove his tracking device and a summons to a supporters' gathering that could facilitate a potential flight.

Judicial Records Show Escape Concerns

In a filing authorising the custody, Justice Moraes said data from the facility tracking the former president's confinement suggested the ex-president's plan to remove the surveillance device to guarantee victory in his flight.

This, it said, would be assisted by the chaos caused by the protest called by his child.

His child, Flávio Bolsonaro, who holds office as a senator, called for a gathering of his supporters near Bolsonaro's home to take place on Saturday night.

The senator wrote on social media on the previous day: "Are you going to fight for your homeland, or see it all from your phone there on your sofa? I invite you to struggle with us."

He said the vigil would be so supporters could offer prayers for his well-being and for the reestablishment of democratic governance in our land."

Foreign Shelter Risks

Part of the judge's ruling was the possibility of Bolsonaro's transfer to diplomatic missions near the home, considering that the probes revealed a record of organizing to request asylum through a diplomatic representation", a declaration said.

The court filing underscores that the US embassy in the national capital, the capital city, is situated around 8 miles from his dwelling.

International Reactions

His judicial problems have generated frustration from fellow conservative nationalist US President President Trump, causing him to impose a 50% tariff on Brazilian product imports.

He is being held in a federal law enforcement building in Brazil's capital city and will experience a detention review on Sunday.

Latest Court Petitions

It was only on the previous day that the ex-leader's attorneys asked the High Court to authorize him to fulfill his full incarceration period under house arrest, with digital surveillance.

They also requested that the former president be permitted to leave his home for healthcare, saying he required regular treatment for respiratory ailments and other illnesses.

Details of Guilty Verdict

Bolsonaro was determined responsible of orchestrating a conspiracy aimed at maintaining his control after he lost the presidential race to his political opponent, President Lula.

Supreme Court justices said that he was aware of a plan which included plans to kill his opponent and his vice-presidential running mate, his vice-presidential candidate, and to imprison and murder Alexandre de Moraes - the Supreme Court justice who has been presiding over his judicial proceedings.

The conspiracy was stopped because it didn't receive the support of the armed forces officials. Lula was took office without problem on the first day of 2023.

But a following week, on the eighth of January, many his followers invaded and destroyed public facilities in the capital, the capital city.

The law enforcement stepped in and around approximately 1,500 persons were arrested.

The magistrates found that the demonstrators had been provoked by him whose plan, they said, was for the country's army to intervene, restore order and reinstate his authority.

At the period, the legal team called the 27 years and three months sentence "absurdly excessive.

He was also prohibited from running for public office until twenty-sixty - eight years after the end of his sentence.

The one-time head of state called the court case a political persecution and said it was intended to stop him competing in the next presidential race.
